11 kilos of silver seized, three arrested

CHENNAI
: An alert team of policemen at the Elephant Gate check post stopped an autorickshaw and seized 11 kg of silver and arrested three persons here on Wednesday.
Police said Manoharan of Otteri, a goldsmith had complained to the police that he lost silver weighing over 11 kg from his lathe.
During the vehicle check at Elephant Gate, police found silver being stashed in gunny bags, and questioning established that it was stolen. The three arrested from auto were Velmurugan (19), Selvakumar (22), Shankar (27) and Jagan (27). Whether they had stolen the silver or were transporting the stolen goods is being probed, Otteri police said. Further investigation is on.
MGR Nagar police arrested Kamaraj (38) of K K Nagar on charges of threatening a lawyer. According to police, advocate Baskara Rao had complained that Kamaraj had threatened him and forcibly barged into his house and damaged property. Inquiries revealed that Kamaraj was involved in a property dispute with the advocate.
Police also said Kamaraj was wanted in connection with five cases. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
