Nanjil Sampath held

CHENNAI:
Nanjil Sampath, a senior functionary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, was arrested late on Wednesday on the charge of defamation against a DMK functionary.
MDMK's Chennai district secretary Jeevan told The Hindu that Mr. Sampath and others who were returning after a public meeting at Villivakkam were stopped by the police near the New Avadi Road junction around 10.15 p.m. He was taken to the Pondy Bazaar station at T. Nagar.
"The officer there told us that Mr. Sampath was arrested on a complaint by Vijaya Thayanban [who recently joined the DMK after quitting the MDMK]. She had apparently alleged in her complaint that Mr. Sampath made the defamatory remarks at a public meeting held at MGR Nagar here on September 28."
