On a mission

The cleanliness week observance of the Koyilandy municipality in the area had participants from unexpected quarters on Wednesday. The policemen joined the cleanliness drive at the local bus stand and the market road. The policemen helped clean up the surroundings for three days. On Thursday, the excise personnel pitched in. Advocates are due to join on Friday. On Friday, nearly 6,000 people will form a 5.5 km-long `human chain' on behalf of the municipality to create public awareness of the ill effects of pan, chairman of the municipality K. Dasan said. The cleanliness drive has been extended to a month in the wake of chikungunya outbreak, Mr. Dasan said.
