Mumbai: The Sportstar Trophy, Mumbai Cricket Association's under-19 selection trial tournament for the Cooch Behar Trophy, will be played at the Elf-Vengsarkar Cricket Academy and Karnatak Sporting Association ground from October 10. Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, Head-Administration BCCI, addressing the media on Wednesday said, "The Sportstar Trophy has become a very important tournament in the MCA's annual calendar and provides opportunities for junior cricketers to make an impression. I thank The Hindu group for sponsoring this tournament." Former Mumbai captain Milind Rege said that a majority of Mumbai's cricketers have figured in the Sportstar Trophy. Rege will inaugurate the tournament on October 10. Four teams Vijay Merchant XI, Vijay Manjrekar XI, Dattu Phadkar XI and Khandu Rangnekar XI will take part in the competition to be played in a round-robin format. The winner will receive the Sportstar Trophy. The six man of the match award winners will receive a gift voucher worth Rs. 2,000 each, the player of the tournament will get the `Ramakant Desai crystal trophy' and a cricket kit worth Rs. 20,000. The MCA under-19 selection committee will decide the man of the match and player of the tournaments. The best fielder of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs.1000, donated by the family of former MCA secretary and vice-president Bal Mahadalkar.
