MAC awards for 2006 announced

CHENNAI : The MAC Charities awards for 2006 have been announced.

The Dr. Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar Awards for outstanding contribution to Tamil language and literature will be given to P.R. Gokulakrishnan, a retired Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, who has been connected with various social causes.

The nominee for this year's Dr. M.A. Chidambaram Chettiar award is Suki Sivam for excellence in fine arts. The Dr. A.C. Muthiah award for excellence in first generation entrepreneurship will be conferred on Vanathi Y. Thirunavukkarasu. He contributed greatly to the growth of Tamil through publishing the works of scores of noted authors.Each award carries a cash prize of Rs.50,000, and a citation in a silver casket.

The awards will be presented at a function on October 12, at Rajah Annamalai Mandram, to coincide with the birth anniversary of M.A. Chidambaram.
