CHENNAI : Rotary Club of Madras Chenna Patna has joined hands with a voluntary organisation, AIM for Seva of Swami Dayananda Saraswati, to build and run a school for the tsunami affected of Kadalur village, near Kalpakkam off the East Coast road. The Swami Dayananda Rotary Model School was inaugurated on October 2 (Gandhi Jayanthi). The function was presided over by S Lakshmanan, President, Rotary Club of Madras Chenna Patna. The project (costing over Rs. 1.0 crore) taken up with the help of corporate houses and NGOs includes a school, health centre, hostel facility, and an ambulance. Unveiling a plaque, the guests commended the Club for taking up the cause and for playing a catalytic role in bringing rehabilitation to the tsunami affected, especially by providing education for the next generation. Mr Lakshmanan gave an overview of the background of the project and said the Club was committed to bringing education and literacy to these parts through partnership with AIM for Seva. The guests included S Krishnamurthy, Station Director, Madras Atomic Research Centre, Kalpakkam A Subramaniam, district governor nominee and Ms Sheela Balaji, Secretary of the Club, Capt Hariharan, Past President of the club and Raja Venkateswaran, Chairman of the Project of Chenna Patna on behalf of Rotary, and Mr Jaishankar of AIM for Seva.
