CPI(M) moots 3-nation team to take on England
NEW DELHI:
Senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury has shot off a letter to fellow Parliamentarian and Cricket Board chief Sharad Pawar, asking him to consider forming a joint India-Pakistan-Bangladesh cricket team to take on England in 2007, which marks the 150th anniversary of the First War of Indian Independence.
Mr. Yechury said since 2007 would also mark the 60th anniversary of India's Independence from British rule, it would be a good idea to have the matches against England.
"To mark this occasion, I think it will be a good idea for the BCCI to take the initiative in composing a joint India-Pakistan-Bangladesh cricket team to play a series of one-day matches with England, our former colonial ruler,'' he said in the letter. PTI
