Madurai: Muthupandiaraj's five for 10 helped SRNM College, Sattur, chalk out a 26-run win over Thiagarajar Arts College, Madurai, in the four-team league of the Madurai Kamaraj University Champions Trophy cricket tournament at the University ground on Thursday. The scores: SRNM College 124 for seven in 30 overs bt Thiagarajar Arts College 98 in 24 overs (Muthu Pandiaraj five for 10). Sourashtra College 171 for six in 30 overs (Sethuraman 62) bt Madura College 124 in 29.2 overs (Kasi Viswanathan four for 14, Ranjith four for 27).
Vadivukkarasu shines
At Neyveli, Vadivukkarasu scored a century as Pennadam CC defeated Majestic CC by 19 runs in a TNCA-CDCA first division league cricket match. The scores: Pennadam CC 283 in 39.5 overs (Vadivukkarasu 123) bt Majestic CC 264 in 38.3 overs (Jayachandiran 93, Ganesh 48, Ganesan four for 38). Blue Moon CC 184 in 33.1 overs (Kabir 46) bt Vadalur 130 in 25.5 overs (Bhaskar 41, Kumaravel four for 30).
SIT wins team title
Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti, won the team title in the Anna University zone-9 inter-engineering chess tournament, organised by the Pandyan Saraswathy Yadava Engineering College, Arasanur, near Madurai, on Wednesday. Final standings: 1. SIT (23.5 pts); 2. Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai (21.5); 3. Alagappa Chettiar CE, Karaikudi (19.5).
Lehar, SNC qualify
At Tiruchi, Lehar CC and Srinivasa Nagar Blues entered the TNCA-TDCA fifth division after winning their qualifying round semifinal matches against Kurinji Arts College and Karur CC respectively. The scores: Semifinals: Lehar 148 in 27.5 overs (Divakar 30) bt Kurinji AC 93 in 19.1 overs (Raja four for 18, Mohan three for 20); Karur 153 for nine in 30 overs (Suresh 50, Rajmohan three for 33) lost to Srinivasa Nagar Blues 155 for six in 29.5 overs (Martin 62, Puviraj 32).
Arun to lead
Arun of American College, Madurai, will lead the Madurai Kamaraj University team in the South Zone inter-university hockey tournament at Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram, from Oct. 6. The team: Arun (capt, American College), K.A. Methaji Prasanna, P. Ponraj, R. Manikandan, V. Rajesh Kannan, M.V. Krishnamoorthy, G.V. Solai Arasu, R. Sathyaseelan (all from Sourashtra College), A. State-level swimming
