Corporation initiates measures to prevent chikungunya

KOZHIKODE. The cleanliness drive by the District Medical Office as part of preventive measures against chikungunya began here on Thursday.

Mayor M. Bhaskaran inaugurated the drive. K. Damodaran, District Medical Officer (DMO), presided. Beach Hospital superintendent D. Thankam welcomed the gathering. District Mass Media Officer D. Sasi proposed the vote of thanks.

An awareness rally preceded the inaugural function. Deputy Mass Media officers T.P. Sudhakaran and T. Suryan led the rally. Students, including those from the Kallai Government School of Nursing, and volunteers participated in the cleanliness drive.

Emergency meeting

The DMO has requested all concerned to attend the emergency meeting called at the IMA Hall here at 12 noon on Friday to coordinate and review the preventive activities against Chikungunya in the district. The meeting would be attended by leaders of prominent political leaders, district MPs and MLAs, Corporation Mayor, district panchayat president, municipal chairmen, block panchayat presidents, chairmen of corporation, municipalities and district panchayat health standing committee and experts in health sector. Doctors working in Government and private hospitals, doctors of primary health centres, Homoeo And ayurveda district medical officers, social welfare, district panchayat, heads of Kerala Water Authority, Public Works Department and Education departments, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kudumbashree, NSS coordinators and volunteers will take part.
