Scientists, physicians and experts from across the world got a glimpse of how versatile and dynamic President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam is when he addressed the 2nd Asian Interventional Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference in Delhi this past week. Dr. Kalam spoke about the problems, possible solution and his vision in the area of interventional cardiovascular therapies much to the amazement of the foreign delegates. He highlighted some very important aspects of medical science and research and said there was a need for basic research and environmental upgrading. Dr. Kalam, who had also developed India's first indigenous stent, also mentioned how from his discussions with his "cardiac friends'' he had come to realise the importance of reporting the results of negative studies in scientific journals. "Medical device and pharmaceutical companies undertake medical research and there is need for reporting the results of the negative studies in scientific journals." -- Bindu Shajan Perappadan
