ECM to give solar lanterns on subsidy

HYDERABAD
: The Energy Conservation Mission of the Institution of Engineers (India) Andhra Pradesh State Centre, as part of its "Grameena nitya deepotsavam" programme is distributing solar lanterns at highly subsidised rates to 250 beneficiaries in 20 remote hamlets of Gattu mandal in Mahabubnagar district on October 8.
People in these 20 hamlets have no electricity supply. Each three-watt lantern is being given at Rs. 250 (16 per cent of the total cost) as against the cost price of Rs. 1,500, the remaining being pooled by corporate and voluntary donations. Mahbubnagar District Collector V. Usha Rani will formally hand over the lanterns.
A similar programme of distributing 85 solar lanterns will be taken up in two tribal hamlets in the interior forest area of Dammapeta mandal in Khammam district, according to a press release.
