Mohammed panel's directive

KOCHI: The fee regulatory committee, headed by the former judge P.A. Mohammed, has asked the State Government to furnish details of the fee structure evolved on the basis of talks with representatives of private medical and engineering college managements held earlier. A sitting of the committee was convened here on Thursday to chalk out the fee structure for professional courses in the coming years. But the committee observed that further discussions could be initiated only after the Government submitted its reply on the fee structure evolved on the basis of the talks. — Staff Reporter

Malayalam must till fourth standard

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has made the study of Malayalam compulsory till the fourth standard in all schools in the State from the next academic year. The orders in this regard have been issued. The Government has also asked the State Council for Educational Research and Training to prepare the curriculum and textbooks for the purpose. The decision has been taken as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the formation of Kerala. — Special Correspondent

Rs. 1 lakh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor R.L. Bhatia has sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh from the Governor's Discretionary Grant to the Kerala branch of the India Red Cross Society for its activities in chikungunya-affected areas of Alappuzha and other districts. — Staff Reporter

Legal help promised for expatriates in jail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan announced in the Assembly on Thursday that the State Government would provide Rs. 50,000 a family for the education of children of Keralites who died while working abroad. Replying to points made by members about non-resident Keralites' affairs during the debate on the demands for grants for Labour and Labour Welfare departments, the Chief minister said the Government also proposed to provide legal help to Keralites imprisoned in foreign countries.

Works to begin

at Sabarimala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting of the Pampa Action Plan Coordination Committee here on Thursday decided to take up work under the plan immediately. The first phase includes setting up of sewage treatment plants at Sabarimala and Pampa and construction of latrines and bathrooms for pilgrims. The consultant Ecosmart was asked to submit the plan within two weeks so that the works could be completed before the coming pilgrim season. Completion of these was required for getting Central clearance for the subsequent phases. The Kerala Water Authority was asked to prepare the detailed engineering report and environment impact assessment for that. — Special Correspondent

SETO's token stir

on December 12

Thiruvananthapuram: The pro-Congress State Employees and Teachers' Organisation (SETO) has called for a token stir on December 12, demanding release of four instalments of dearness allowance, resolution of anomalies in the pay commission report and stopping of alleged victimisation of employees through transfers. In a statement here on Thursday, SETO chairman Rajan Kurikal accused the Government of keeping mum on releasing the instalments. — Special Correspondent
