Girl student ends life

MAHABUBNAGAR: A 10th class student Sirisha (16) committed suicide by consuming pesticide in her house on Wednesday night at Turkadinne in Kodair mandal. According to information, Sirisha was allegedly tortured by a degree student for the last two years. - Staff Reporter

Tribal student dies of injection reaction

ADILABAD: Kodapa Laxman, 23, a tribal degree final year student belonging to Jendaguda of Ichoda mandal, died at the District Headquarters Hospital on Thursday. His death was attributed to reaction of an injection given by a quack from Narsapur. - Staff Reporter

Plea to reconsider move on assigned lands

HYDERABAD: The Mala Mahanadu has urged the Government to reconsider its decision to amend the Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act of 1977, saying it will affect the interests of 30 lakh Dalits. Its president J. Prabhakara Rao told reporters here on Thursday that there was no clarity in the proposed amendment. - Special Correspondent

KURNOOL: A team of officials led by Assistant Director of Handlooms Dolaiah and Mathews, MRO, enquired into the death of weaver N. Venkateswarlu at Kodumur on Thursday. The weaver owned four looms but his debts mounted to Rs. 2 lakhs, it is said. - Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI: Traffic was disrupted at the busy Nalagu Kalla Mandapam here on Thursday when CPI activists held a rasta roko protesting against the police lathicharge on demonstrators agitating for house sites at Vedanthapuram village on Wednesday. Congressman killed

KURNOOL: Congress supporter K.B. Nagappa (40) was hacked to death by some assailants at Chinnamariveedu in Gonegandla mandal of Kurnool district on Thursday. Old enmity was said to be the reason for the murder. - Staff Reporter
