Haryana woos more foreign ventures

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Haryana and Britain on Thursday agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations. They also offered assistance to entrepreneurs in setting up their ventures.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in a meeting with the Counsellor (Economic and Commercial) of the British High Commission, Jane Owen, offered opportunities to British entrepreneurs in automobiles, textiles, information technology, power, food processing, pharmaceuticals and leather.

It was decided that Haryana Government and the British High Commission in New Delhi would appoint nodal officers to further discuss modalities for strengthening mutual cooperation in the industrial sector.

Mr. Hooda said the Central Government had approved in principle 150 proposals for setting up special economic zones and out of these 37 were for Haryana. Claiming that the industrial scenario was fast changing in the State, he said an investment of Rs.10,000 crores had come to the State since he became Chief Minister and projects involving Rs.35,000 crores were under implementation in the State.

More industrial estates would come up at Rohtak, near Jagadhari and Faridabad. Efforts to create an industry-friendly climate had started yielding results, he added. Mr. Hooda said he would be leading an official and business delegation to European countries from October 8 to 19 "to market Haryana as the ultimate choice for entrepreneurs".

Starting from Holland, the delegation would visit Germany, France, Britain and Spain. The Chief Minister's Principal Secretary, M. L. Tayal, said that the proposed visit to Spain had been finalised following an invitation received from the Indian Ambassador to Spain.
