HASSAN: The district police have arrested six persons in connection with the murder of Gyralli Thammaiah, head of an educational institution in Hassan. He was hacked to death on September 19. Police have seized vehicles and weapons used for the purpose from the accused. Superintendent of Police Panduranga H. Rane told presspersons here on Thursday, that the daylight murder had shocked the residents. A special police team was formed which arrested six of the 13 accused in the incident. Efforts were on to arrest others involved in the incident, he added. Police arrested Prashanth (26), Mayura (19), and Anil (20) of Hassan from Channarayapatna-Tiptur Road on October 4. On the basis of information given by them, the team reached Tiptur railway station and arrested Suri (27), Ranga (20) and Aravinda (26) of Hassan on Thursday morning. The accused were produced before the judicial magistrate, he said. Mr. Rane said of the 13 accused, three were wards of H.R. Nagaraj, member of Hassan City Municipal Council, who was murdered on September 10, 2005. They admitted that they hacked Gyralli Thammaiah to death to avenge their father's murder, he said. Of the arrested, Prashanth and Suri were involved in cases of rioting. "It was a well-planned murder and the accused hired a room in Aadlimane area in the city to hatch the conspiracy over a period of one month. They reached the spot masking their faces and they were in an inebriated state when they killed Thammaiah," he said. He denied reports that the accused had surrendered much before their arrest.
