Minister instructs to expedite housing scheme

50 per cent of houses to be grounded within two months


  • Construction of house requires about Rs. 45,000
  • Using low-cost hollow bricks to reduce cost

    KARIMNAGAR: Minister for Minorities Welfare and district in-charge Md. Fariduddin has instructed district officials to expedite the housing scheme and ground at least 50 per cent of the sanctioned houses within two months.

    Participating in the district review committee (DRC) meeting here on Thursday, he expressed concern over the snail's progress in the implementation of the housing scheme due to `lethargy' on the part of officials concerned.

    He informed the officials to outsource the employees if there was shortage of staff in the execution of the scheme.

    Decentralise payments

    He also instructed the officials to decentralised the payments to the beneficiaries and expedite the housing scheme in coordination with all departments.

    Reacting to the complaints from the legislator, Collector M. V. Satyanarayana said that they were taking all necessary steps for the completion of housing scheme target by March 2007.

    He said that the Government had sanctioned 18 Assistant Engineers and 80 work inspectors for the execution of the housing scheme in the district.

    Stating that the construction of house requires about Rs. 45,000, he said that the Government was able to provide only between Rs. 31,000 to Rs. 32,000 and the beneficiaries were contributing the remaining amount.

    He said that they were encouraging the use of low-cost hollow bricks and change of RCC roofing pattern to reduce the cost.

    Plea to bankers

    They were also encouraging the beneficiaries to do mason work so that the cost of construction would come down.

    He also said that they were encouraging the bankers to extend financial assistance to the beneficiaries for the completion of houses.
