SISI ties up with Bajaj Auto for two-wheeler servicing outlets

Special Correspondent

By January all 200 outlets will be in place

CHENNAI: The Small Industries Service Institute, a wing of Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO), under the Union Ministry of Small Scale Industries, has joined hands with a leading corporate entity for establishing 200 two-wheeler servicing outlets in different parts of the State.

The outlets will be run by those selected by the SISI and Bajaj Auto. Most of them will be set up in rural areas, S. Sivagnanam, Director of the SISI, told reporters here on Thursday.

The first batch of 20 persons was undergoing a training programme conducted by Bajaj Auto. Subsequently, the institute would provide training in managerial and entrepreneurial aspects to the trainees. By January, all the 200 outlets would be in place. The identification of the sites for the outlets would be decided on the basis of the vehicle population.

Explaining other activities of his organisation, Mr. Sivagnanam said 22 tribals of Kadambur in Sathyamangalam block of Erode district were being trained in broom making.

They were identified with the help of the Forest department. There were plans to provide training in honey, gooseberry and tamarind processing. Assistance of non-governmental organisations and bankers would be taken for enabling tribals to start self-employment ventures. This year, the SISI would organise 35 entrepreneurial development programmes and 20 prospective entrepreneurs would be covered in each programme. The objective of the programme was to create 700 enterprises in the State and Puducherry. On completion, of the programme, Indian Bank, strategic partner of the SISI, would extend financial assistance to those who decided to set up enterprises.

One representative each from the SISI and the Bank would mentor the entrepreneurs.
