Mystery shrouds death of two students

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: Two girls died under suspicious circumstances in separate incidents in the city on Thursday.

The Penamaluru police said the body of P. Ramyasri (16), a student of Intermediate first year with Bi.P.C group on Ganguru campus of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions, was hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room. Her friends alerted the college principal. The police found a letter purportedly written by the girl to her parents, in which she said she chose to end her life, as she was unable to follow the lessons. The police said the girl was from Sunkupet in West Godavari district.

P. Sailaja (16), a class X student, was charred to death at her residence in Tadigadapa on Thursday evening. The Penamaluru police said Sailaja's cousin Ramesh saw her engulfed by flames and alerted the neighbours. The police suspected that explosion of kerosene stove might be the reason for the incident.

Arrested

The Penamaluru police arrested P. Pandu Ranga Rao, principal of a private school, on the charge of harassing a girl student of his school.

Found dead

A railway employee, T.C. Bhaskar (45), Deputy Chief Controller, died under mysterious circumstances on the track at the Vijayawada railway station.
