Devotees throng temple

To witness the float festival

MADURAI: Hundreds of devotees thronged the Tallakulam Prasanna Venkatachalapathy Temple to witness the float festival here on Thursday.

The festival was organised on the 11th day of the Purattasi Brahmotsavam.

The presiding deity of the temple, Lord Srinivasa Perumal, along with His consorts Sridevi and Bhoomadevi, was taken around on a decorated float in the `Tirumukkulam,' the temple tank.

The float went around once in the morning and thrice in the evening.

The illuminated float was a treat to watch during evening hours.

It may be noted that the Brahmotsavam of this temple coincides with the one held at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).

According to a legend, Lord Venkatachalapathy of Tirumala gave darshan to King Tirumalai Naick and ordered him to construct a temple at Tallakulam.

Hence, the rituals and festivals followed in the Prasanna Venkatachalapathy Temple are similar to that of TTD.

As part of the festival, the Lord was decorated with flowers and special pujas were performed on the occasion.
