Attempts suicide after brother dies

Srinagar: A man was struggling for life after attempting suicide on learning that his brother, a constable in the Jammu and Kashmir police, had died in a militant attack at Lal Chowk here on Thursday, officials said.

Mohammad Yousuf Dar, younger brother of constable Bashir Ahmad, consumed poison as soon as he came to know about the death of his brother in the gunbattle in a hotel near Dashnami Akhara, they said.

Hailing from Pulwama district of South Kashmir, Dar was rushed to the district hospital. His condition was described as serious.
