Staff Reporter

Inaugural flight of Air Sahara carries over 50 passengers

Thiruvananthapuram: Air Sahara commenced non-stop daily flight from Thiruvananthapuram international airport to Delhi using Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Thursday.

The inaugural flight with over 50 passengers was flagged off by Principal Secretary, Tourism, E.K. Bharat Bhushan.

The flight, which would depart from Thiruvananthapuram airport daily at 12.30 noon, would land in Delhi at 3.45 p.m. The flight is non-stop and the longest in the domestic sector, a spokesman of the airline told The Hindu.

With the commencement of flight operations by Air Sahara to the State capital, the number of airlines operating in the domestic sector to the city has gone up to six. Indian and Air Deccan operate flights from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi via Chennai and Mumbai.

The flight will further improve the air connectivity between the State capital and New Delhi and would be a boon for the tourists and frequent flyers. Those flying in the non-stop flight can avoid delay in Chennai and Mumbai airports and the hassles in changing the aircraft can be avoided.

The S2147 flight of Air Sahara will depart from New Delhi at 7.35 a.m. to reach Kochi at 10.40 a.m. It will later depart from Nedumbassery airport at 11.10 a.m. to reach Thiruvananthapuram international airport at 11.50 a.m.

The flight will later depart from Thiruvananthapuram at 12.30 noon for Delhi. Air Sahara's flight would be a full-fledged one, the spokesman said. The flight will have 168 seats in the economy class and 12 in the business class.

The fare being offered by the airline in Thiruvananthapuram-Delhi sector varies from Rs.6,850 to Rs.20,045. Air Sahara is already operating a flight in the Delhi-Hyderabad- Kochi-Delhi sector. The airline has also plans to commence flight from Thiruvananthapuram airport to Male soon, he added.
