KOCHI: The fixing of price for acquiring land for the four-lane highway to be constructed to connect Kalamassery with the proposed International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam has started. The price of the land at Mulavukadu was taken up for fixing at the first phase. An increase of 10 percent had been allotted in the price of the land to be acquired compared to the price decided earlier, according to District Collector A.P.M.Mohammed Hanish. According to this, the land owners divided into 10 categories, will get a minimum of Rs.4,210 per cent and a maximum of Rs.93,000 per cent. A total area of 29 acres in 51 plots would be taken over in this area for the proposed four-lane highway. The next meeting of the District Level Purchase Committee will be held on October 12. The four-lane road has been planned to ease congestion in the city's arterial roads. Once the road is ready, hundreds of container lorries and goods carriers from Vallarpadam can get easy access to the National Highway, without entering the city hub. The new road will come in handy for motorists proceeding to and from the northern side of Ernakulam.
