HYDERABAD: The Pothireddypadu head regulator issue continued to haunt the Government with the city MLAs contending that it would divert Krishna water to Rayalaseema at the cost of Telangana districts, particularly the growing water needs of the city, at the Hyderabad District Review Committee meeting. City legislators, including P. Janardhan Reddy, Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Akbaruddin Owaisi, Sayanna, Kishen Reddy, and MP V. Hanumantha Rao said Nagarjunasagar would dry up with the diversion of water from Pothireddypadu and thus affect water supplies to the city. They said officials were silent on the third phase of Krishna water, as it would have to be shelved due to diversion of water. The constant discussion of bringing Godavari water to the city was also part of the plan to shelve the third phase.
Minister's assurance
Minister for Information and Public Relations Mohd. Ali Shabbir dismissed the "allegations" and said the capacity of Nagarjunasagar dam was 408 tmc while the city would draw only 16.5 tmc through the three phases. "No injustice will be done to the city," he said. The public representatives were unanimous in demanding scrapping of Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) as the construction activity had come to a standstill. Mr. Hanumantha Rao used the forum to criticise the Government on the acquisition of farmer's lands on the city outskirts. He sought an enquiry into all land deals. Mr. Narsimha Reddy sought implementation of G.O. 610 in the Water Board. He targeted the HMWSSB Managing Director K.S. Jawahar Reddy for failing to implement G.O. and accused him of appointing officials from other regions on the very next day the Cabinet decided to implement the G.O. Mr. Jawahar Reddy said there were some legal hurdles but said the G.O. would be implemented.
