The victim B. Sunkanna, 48, a rag picker was attacked by a group with sickles, near his house at Nandanavanam Colony. They also attacked his sister Kondamma, 38, who tried to rescue Sunkanna.

The attackers — Chiranjeevi, Ramanjaneyulu and Sanjeeva — and their aides, all rag pickers fled after Sunkanna collapsed, L.B. Nagar Inspector V. Surender Reddy said. According to the Inspector, a resident of the colony whose name also was Sunkanna had recently stolen copper wire. "We're not yet sure how the three accused are connected to the theft but they had a fight with Sunkanna over sharing it on Wednesday," he said. When Laxman, son of Sunkanna, intervened, they slapped him. Based on Laxman's complaint, the L.B. Nagar police registered a case against the four persons.
