HYDERABAD: A communication from the Prime Minister's Office asking the State Government to relieve M.V. Krishna Rao, Managing Director, APSRTC, for posting him as Additional Director-General, Central Reserve Police Force, has placed the State Government in a piquant situation. The proposed transfer comes at a time when the APSRTC unions have served a strike notice on the management. The communication from the PMO, which was received on September 28, said that as Mr. Rao's name was in the empanelment list for Central deputation, he had been selected to handle CRPF's operations from Chandigarh. The IPS officer's transfer is being opposed by the employees' unions not only on the issue of its timing. National Mazdoor Union president M. Nageswara Rao said Mr. Krishna Rao had been instrumental in turning the corporation around. Sources said that with Mr. Krishna Rao's transfer almost a certainty, the Government is already searching for his successor to head the corporation that owns a fleet of over 17,000 buses and employs over one lakh persons.
