NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has announced that senior citizens in the Capital will get free travel facility in city buses. She also said that the senior citizens would soon be given identity cards and that recreation centres for elders would be set up in all 70 Delhi Assembly segments. Speaking at a workshop organised by the Department of Social Welfare to commemorate International Elders' Day, Ms. Dikshit also called upon the young people to consult the senior citizens and benefit from their rich experience. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Senior Citizen Council would be able to address the problems of the elders who have been facing crises in their lives. Ms. Dikshit said while the Department of Social Welfare had been granting pension to a number of elders and also providing old age home facilities, the other departments too have been sensitised to give due respect to the visiting senior citizens in their offices.
