Bharti Yadav to return on November 25

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Bharti Yadav, a key witness in the Nitish Katara murder case, on Friday informed a trial court here that she would come to India on November 25 to depose.

Counsel S.C. Ghuttan gave an undertaking to this effect to Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur. Ms. Yadav is now in London pursuing a professional course.

Ms. Kaur fixed November 25 as the date for conduct of further trial. The trial in the case had been stuck for the past few months due to non-appearance of Ms. Yadav despite issuance of repeated summons by the trial court.

The prosecution promised to the court that Ms. Yadav would not be arrested on her arrival.

The court last week directed Ms. Yadav to appear before it and depose by October 5, failing which she would be declared a proclaimed offender.

Ms. Kaur in July allowed the Delhi Police to initiate the process of declaring Ms. Yadav a proclaimed offender. She then moved the Delhi High Court, seeking quashing of Ms. Kaur's order.

Vikas Yadav and Vishal Yadav, brother and cousin respectively of Ms. Yadav, are facing trial for allegedly kidnapping Nitish Katara, son of a former IAS officer here, and later killing him because they were allegedly against their sister having an affair with the deceased.
