ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India may have an agreement on Siachen when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits Pakistan, the Dawn newspaper said on Friday quoting All Party Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Omer Farooq. The Mirwaiz told the newspaper in Washington D.C, where he is now on a visit, that he got this "impression" from what President Pervez Musharraf recently told him about his meeting with Dr. Singh in Havana. "My impression is that they are ready to resolve the Siachen dispute," the Mirwaiz said. He said Gen. Musharraf was also very optimistic about finding a solution to the Kashmir issue, but "the events on the ground are not very hopeful." The Mirwaiz said while he was "happy" that Pakistan and India seemed close to an agreement on Siachen, resolving the Kashmir issue required a "greater commitment" from both countries "which I do not see." But Gen. Musharraf believedboth sides could make "headway" on the Kashmir dispute too during the visit, he said. "[President Musharraf] believes Dr. Singh's visit will be very crucial. They have already started working on the visit but I believe they need to do more homework to make the Kashmiris believe that they are moving towards resolving the Kashmir dispute," the Mirwaiz said.
