Tatas to expand in Himachal

Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA: Telecom service provider Tata Teleservice Limited on Friday announced a Rs. 25-crore expansion plan in the coming year for the hill State of Himachal. As part of the programme, Tatas plan to enhance their services to about 100 new semi-urban and rural segments within the Himachal Circle. The company cell sites are to be increased to 80-100 from the existing 60, said Mr. Sandeep Srivastva, Chief Operating Officer of Himachal TTSL.

To improve the basic telephony requirements the company is also planning to launch nearly 25 Tata Indicom Shoppes in the Circle. Launching a new colour mobile product range as the festive offer of the season, company officials showcased a number of compact Chinese handsets with tariff plans ranging from Rs. 2,000 to 3,000. Though a late entrant in Himachal, Tatas have a market share of 9 per cent in the State at present.
