Three convicted in cheating case

NEW DELHI: A special CBI court here on Friday convicted three persons in connection with a theft-cum-cheating case involving stolen bank drafts. The court has sentenced them to two-year rigorous imprisonment and fines of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 25,000, respectively.

According to the CBI, Dalip Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Arvinder Singh had stolen a draft book containing 24 blank drafts from the State Bank of India, Faridabad. The case was registered in January 1994.

Investigations revealed that out of 24 blank drafts, they had managed to get 11 cashed for Rs. 18.96 lakhs at various branches of the Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Punjab and Sind Bank by opening various accounts in fictitious names and forging the signatures of various officers of the State Bank of India.
