2.25 lakh forms already sold for DDA scheme

Staff Reporter

The chances of getting a flat are likely to be one in a hundred

NEW DELHI: The "DDA Housing Scheme 2006'' under which two and three-bedroom flats and expandable houses are being offered by the Delhi Development Authority has already broken all records for sale of forms for any single scheme brought out by the agency thus far. With a week still to go for closure of the scheme, under which over 3,500 flats will be sold, the DDA has already sold nearly 2.25 lakh forms.

According to a DDA spokesperson, 2 lakh forms were printed in the first lot and another 1.25 lakh were printed thereafter as the public response for the scheme has been very good.

While under the Festival Housing Scheme of 2004 the DDA had sold nearly 2 lakh forms, that mark was breached during the first month of the DDA Housing Scheme 2006 that was launched on August 22.

As the demand is very high, the DDA has prepared itself for printing more forms.

"We are keeping a buffer of around 25,000 forms, and as soon as the sale of this lot would begin, printing of more forms would be undertaken.''

Under the housing scheme, three-bedroom flats have been offered in Sarita Vihar, Dwarka and Motia Khan. Two-bedroom flats are also being offered in prominent localities such as Dwarka, Sarita Vihar, Rohini and Shalimar Bagh among others.

Going by the pace of sale of the forms, it is expected to cross the 3-lakh mark soon. So the ratio of application to allotment is expected to be around one in a hundred.

But that is not acting as a deterrent for the applicants as the rates at which the flats are being offered are much less than the market price.

To ensure that the benefits of the scheme really reach out to those in need of flats, the DDA this time has allowed registration to only those having a Permanent Account Number. Also, only one member of a family is permitted to apply.

As in the previous scheme, this time too a number of banks have taken to financing of the registration sum of Rs. 1,50,000 on payment of an upfront interest component of just around Rs. 5,000. So in effect people are being able to apply for the scheme at a much nominal price, which though is non-refundable.

With these banks now also going on a publicity blitz to announce the financing scheme, the interest in the scheme is only going to grow in the days to come and this the biggest housing scheme of DDA till date is all set to create new records.
