More battalions for BSF

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil inaugurated the 34th annual training conference of the Border Security Force here on Friday.

In his address, Mr. Patil said the BSF was discharging its duties very well on the borders as well as in countering insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir and in other parts of the country. Stressing the need for induction of more men into the force, Mr. Patil said the process to raise more battalions was under way.

Balmiki Jayanti greetings

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma has extended his greetings to the people of Delhi on the occasion of Maharishi Balmiki Jayanti.

Mr. Sharma said Maharishi Balmiki was revered not just by one sect or religious group but by all sections of society as he was a great soul whose moorings were firmly rooted in the culture and great traditions of the country.

Azad effigy burnt

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Sadar district workers burnt an effigy of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad at Kranti Chowk in Delhi University on Friday for "appealing for clemency for the convicted person in the Parliament attack case".

BJVM Pradesh president Anil Sharma and general secretary Ravinder Gupta demanded that the President dismiss Mr. Azad.

MoU with Australian academy

New Delhi: The National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology on Friday signed an MoU with the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism of Australia for cooperation in hospitality education.

The agreement, signed in the presence of Tourism Secretary A.K. Mishra, is expected to result in joint training opportunities in the National Council's affiliated institutions and exchange of tourism and hospitality academics between the two countries.

Railway exhibition

New Delhi: The Second International Exhibition and Seminar on Cost Effective Solutions for Line Capacity Enhancement organised by the Institution of Railway Signalling and Telecommunication Engineers (India) was inaugurated by R. Velu, Union Minister of State for Railways, at Pragati Maidan here on Friday. Around 500 delegates from Indian and foreign Railways are participating to share their different concepts.
