Taliban men held in Quetta

ISLAMABAD: Police in Balochistan have arrested 45 suspected Taliban fighters in the provincial capital Quetta and from a nearby town, officials said on Saturday.

News of the arrests came after the London Daily Telegraph reported that NATO commanders from five countries had asked their Government to talk tough with Pakistan about ending its alleged support to the Taliban.

The newspaper quoted an unnamed commander saying, "Our boys are hurting because of what's coming out of Quetta."

Balochistan province borders Afghanistan and according to many reports, all denied by the Government, the Taliban has made Quetta its headquarters.

But despite the Government's denials that the Taliban is regrouping in Balochistan, the police have been arresting Afghans, suspected members or sympathisers of the Taliban, from the province in large numbers.
