Belgaum: The KLES Hospital and Medical Research Centre and Department of Plastic Surgery and General Surgery organised a special awareness meet on "Burns Update-2006" here on Saturday. Chandrakant Kokate, Vice-Chancellor, KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research, who inaugurated the event, expressed serious concern over the rise in burns cases in the country. In the Western countries, majority of burns cases were reported either from industrial sector or due to accidents. In India, the cases were due to acid attacks, suicidal trends or deliberate act of burns, which could be easily avoided, he said. He stressed on the need for creating awareness at every level to bring down the cases of burns. It was unfortunate that a burn injury/mark was looked as social stigma, he said.Director of KLES' Health Sciences Institution called upon the participants to create awareness among people and gave simple tips on immediate management of burn injuries.
