Another title for Gangubai Hangal

HONOUR: Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hangal being conferred the Ganagandharva Ganga Geeta Vidyamrutavarshani award by Satyadharmateerth Jnanasatra KEC Ashtotthara Mandali, in Hubli on Saturday.

HUBLI: Doyenne of Hindustani classical music Gangubai Hangal was conferred the title "Ganagandharva Ganga Geeta Vidyamrutavarshani" here on Saturday.

At a simple function organised by Sri Satyadharmateertha Jnanasatra KEC Ashtottara Mandali of Gokul Road here, Samirachar Kanthapalli and Anil Varahamurthy conferred the title on Dr. Hangal and felicitated her.

While Dr. Hangal spoke a few words in response to the honour, the organisers explained the contributions of Dr. Hangal to the world of music.

They hoped that Dr. Hangal would get "Bharat Ratna" soon.

Advocate Manoj Hangal, Shyam Pandurangi, Vittal Gudi, B. Hanumantharao and others were present.

Kishorekumar welcomed the gathering.
