HDMC takes steps to check dengue

    DHARWAD: In the wake of dengue cases being reported in various parts of the country, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has begun implementing preventive steps in the twin cities.

    Health Officer of the corporation A.C. Swamy has said that the HDMC had a good stock of pesticides and adequate number of fogging machines.

    Apart from training the staff in conducting fogging operations, programmes have been chalked out to create awareness about the disease.

    The corporation would display boards and also distribute pamphlets giving information about the contagious disease, he said.

    Appeal

    Meanwhile in a press release, the HDMC has appealed to residents not store water inside the house or outside for more than a week, and clean the utensils and tanks used for storing water regularly.

    It has advised the residents to clean the water tanks twice in a week and keep it closed and also advised them to use mosquito nets, mosquito repellent creams and coils.

    Symptoms

    The symptoms of the disease include high fever, acute headache and vomiting. In cases of dengue that leads to bleeding, there would be marks of bleeding in mouth, nose and gums.

    Limbs become cold, while skin becomes pale. Sometimes the patient will faint.

    Dengue with bleeding is dangerous and might lead to death.

    If there are symptoms of bleeding, the patients should immediately get admitted to hospital.

    The corporation has appealed to the residents to keep their places in a hygienic condition and take steps to dispose of the waste in a proper manner.
