MADURAI: People should vote for the Democratic Progressive Alliance in the local body elections to encourage the good governance of the Tamil Nadu Government, Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi said. Addressing a public meeting here on Friday night, Mr. Karunanidhi said people should vote for the alliance to protect democracy and to ensure that the "dictatorial rule" (of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) did not raise its head again. He was seeking votes for his party candidate S.S. Ghouse Basha for the by-election to the Madurai Central Assembly constituency and the DPA. Visiting the city for the first time after becoming the Chief Minister, Mr. Karunanidhi assured the people of bringing a Tidel Park here for the economic and industrial development of the district. Listing out various development projects carried out in the city by the previous regimes of the DMK, the Chief Minister said the infrastructure for industrial development was already in place. "Industrial development will soon follow," he added. Asserting that the DPA would not break, he said the alliance would continue despite minor differences among partners. "There may be some practical difficulties ... but we will work together to make Tamil Nadu a garden of democracy. We are ready to sacrifice ourselves (for that)," he added. The alliance would work for the welfare and better future of the State.
