Resignation accepted

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai on Saturday accepted the resignation of Power Minister Venod Sharma.

Mr. Sharma, who had submitted his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday, was accorded a rousing welcome in his Ambala City constituency on Saturday by supporters, who took him to his house in a cavalcade of hundreds of vehicles.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Sharma said he had resigned on his own and was not under pressure from the Congress high command. He, however, refused to answer questions on the Jessica Lall murder case, in which his son Manu Sharma was acquitted earlier this year. The matter was "sub judice" now that the Delhi High Court was hearing an appeal against the acquittal, he said.
