Turkish reaches out to Delhi

NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Indo-Turkish Business Association led by Osman Unalan on Saturday met the Mayor of Delhi, Farhad Suri, and expressed its desire to give the capital city of Ankara and also Istanbul twin city status with Delhi.

Mr. Osman said this would help the two cities in exchanging ideas on solid waste management, municipal taxation, public-private partnership in public transport, multi-level car parking, CNG fuel, mass transport and other areas of civic interest.

Welcoming the idea, Mr. Suri said the exercise would be fruitful as both countries had ancient civilisations with a modern outlook. He also assured that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi would work towards according sister city status to Ankara.

Kavi sammelan organised

NEW DELHI: Manavata Abhiyan organised the ninth Rashtriya Kavi Sammelan on Gandhi Jayanti Day this past week. Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar, the chief guest at the function, and Indian Bar Association president R.K. Jain conferred Adittheya Award on Praveen Shukla. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jakhar said even that after 59 years of independence much was yet to be accomplished. He emphasised the need to implement Gandhian principles in our day-to-day life. Among those who attended the function were Surender Sharma, Om Prakash Aditya, Ashok Chakradhar and Munnawar Rana.

Mobile library inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harvinder Singh Sarna inaugurated a mobile library-cum-book shop at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib here on Saturday.

The mobile library would provide free literature and books relating to Sikh religion's history and its philosophy at subsidised rates across the Capital. DSGMC has constituted a committee comprising Education and Youth Wing chairman Daljit Singh, Guru Updesh Printing Press chairman Paramjot Singh, press manager Arvinder Singh Chhatwal, and Dharam Prachar Committee convenor Inderjit Singh Monty, for the purpose.

Dhamm diksha function

NEW DELHI: The All-India Confederation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will organise a Dhamm Diksha Golden Jubilee function here on Sunday. Bringing together people from different parts of the country, the function will be inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
