Maoist's body handed over to relatives

ANANTAPUR: The body of slain CPI (Maoist) leader Samala Venkatesu alias Sudharshan was handed over to his relations after post-mortem at Kadiri Government Hospital on Saturday. He was killed in an encounter with the police on Friday in the Nallamada forest area.— Staff Reporter

BC panel survey

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Commission for Backward Classes will conduct field survey in Chittoor district from October 9 to 16 to study the living conditions and undertake a door-to-door sample of certain castes for inclusion in the BC list.

V. Krishna Mohan Rao, Member, said in a press release here on Friday that Chairman Justice D. Subrahmanyam and Member N. Lakshminarayana Mudiraj would undertake the survey. - Special Correspondent

Road survey completed

Madanapalle: The road survey from Thamballapalle to Sivapuram has been completed. This road will ensure connectivity to Sivapuram, Siddavaram, Kalicherla, Veligalllu, Peddamandem and the surrounding villages with Thamballapalle. The Forest Department also surveyed the foothill of Mallayyakonda to set up a nursery.

Medical camps

KARIMNAGAR: Kamineni Hospital, Hyderabad, and Devishetty Super Speciality Hospital, Karimnagar, have tied up to conduct a regular free cancer check up camps at Devishetty Hospital for the benefit of the locals on first and third Fridays of every month.

Talking to media persons here on Friday, Kamineni Hospitals manager (PR) D. Mahesh, Kamineni Hospitals oncologist Ashwin Shaw, Dr. Saha and Devishetty Hospital radiologist Srikanth Rao have said that the team of oncologists from Kamineni Hospitals would conduct the check up camps and provide medicines at Devishetty Hospitals. - Staff Reporter

Gelatin sticks seized, man held

KADAPA: Proddatur police arrested Rambabu (25) of Ramasainagar in Anantapur town and seized 400 gelatin sticks on Saturday. Proddatur Urban CI Srinivasulu Reddy and SI Sharif nabbed Rambabu when he tried to flee from an RTC bus, which stopped before the police station. Rambabu claimed that he was going to sell the gelatin sticks to SEW Constructions at Brahmamgari Matham, police said.— Staff Reporter

Folk artistes' plea

Hyderabad: The State-wide organisation of folk performers in `oggukatha', `goravayyalu' and `tappetagulla' on Saturday demanded that the Government provide them incentives to improve their `miserable' living standards. In a memorandum submitted to V. Prasada Raju, Director, Culture, leaders sought identity cards for folk artistes, payment of insurance premium by the Government and house-sites. — Special Correspondent

FAPCCI awards

HYDERABAD: The Federation of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) has invited entries before October 30 for its 89th annual awards 2005-06. A. Subba Rao, senior vice-president, said in a press release that the awards would be given in 20 categories, including companies and individuals in recognition of their excellence in various aspects of trade and industrial activity. The awards are to be presented by Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy. — Special Correspondent
