KANNUR: Two tribal colonies in Sreekantapuram grama panchayat limits here became the first Adivasi settlements in the State to achieve total computer literacy under the Akshaya Computer Literacy Programme. The Kamblari and Vallyad Adivasi colonies were declared total computer literate colonies at a function in the former here on Friday. District Collector Ishita Roy was present. As many as 142 Adivasis from nearly 100 families acquired e-literacy through the programme. The computer learning facilities had been provided in the colonies by ensuring electricity supply. The Adivasis, mostly daily-wage workers, completed their computer learning during daytime or at night, a District Information Office press release said. UNESCO Asia Coordinator Seema Nair, who had been doing research on use of information technology for poverty alleviation under a UNESCO project, had visited the Kamblari colony recently along with research officer M. Ramesh, the release added.
