KOZHIKODE: The Hindu-Young World Quiz 2006 coming up in Kozhikode on October 9 has elicited an overwhelming response from schools in the four northern districts from where students will compete for the honours. The Kozhikode regional round of the seventh national edition of the Young World Quiz will be unveiled at the Tagore Centenary Hall. The city is hosting the event for the second time. District Collector A. Jayathilak is the chief guest. A qualified allopathic doctor and an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, the IAS officer has the unique distinction of leading an Indian quiz team for an international competition in Islamabad. The quiz will start with a written preliminary round in which all registered teams will participate. The top six teams clearing the preliminary round will vie for the top honours. The winning team will be invited to participate in the all-India finals of the Young World Quiz to be held at Madurai on November 14, Children's Day. The regional round will cover the districts of Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Students from classes X to XII are eligible to participate. Each school can send a maximum of three two-member teams. Registration is still open. There will be on-the-spot registration also. The contact person is N.V. Prizes in cash and kind await the winners and the audience who attend the event. The team which comes first will receive Rs.8,000 in cash. The prizes for the second and third positions are Rs.6,000 and Rs.4,000 respectively. Eveready is the title sponsor of the event and Jamaai ice-cream the associate sponsor.
