BELLARY: M. Vasudevachar, a follower of Gandhian principles and Sarvodaya leader, died at a private hospital here on Saturday. He was 82. Mr. Vasudevachar, a Kannada scholar, was a teacher in a municipal school in the city and quit the job to shift to Gudekote in Kudligi taluk, Bellary taluk, where he set up the Sarvodaya grama. Besides developing the barren land into lush green fields, Mr. Vasudevachar introduced cooperative farming there. Later, he started a residential school at the "grama". The State Government conferred on him the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 2004. The last rites will be performed on Sunday at Sarvodaya grama.
