BELLARY: The women's wing of the district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has extended a helping hand to women prisoners of the Central Jail here. The vedike, in association with the Bellary District Legal Aid Services Authority, organised a tailoring class for the 24 women prisoners. Prabhavathi Ramachandraiah, an advocate and vedike president, has donated two sewing machines besides arranging for an instructor to conduct classes thrice a week.
Health check-up
She had also arranged for a health check-up camp for women inmates and toys for their children. During the visit of the District and Session Judge and also of the Chief Judicial Magistrate to the jail to install a complaint box, women inmates urged them to arrange for vocational training which would be benefit them after their release. Ms. Prabhavathi decided to respond positively to their plea. In addition to the sewing machines, she has also provided about 30 metres of cloth to help the inmates learn stitching. Her gesture was appreciated by the judicial officers, including Chief Judicial Magistrate B.K.
