Government urged to quell violence

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India have submitted a joint memorandum to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Home Minister M.P. Prakash seeking immediate measures to quell the communal violence in Mangalore and prevent a communal flare-up in Chikmagalur district.

CPI(M) State unit secretary G.N. Nagaraj told presspersons here on Saturday that they had urged the Government to take some special measures to ensure that the district administration did not succumb to pressure from communal elements in Mangalore.

The CPI(M) has decided to stage protest demonstrations on Wednesday throughout the State to condemn the attempts of vested interests to create communal disturbances. A delegation of the party would visit Mangalore on Monday.
