GETTING FACELIFT: Construction work going on at HUDA Colony in Shamshabad. - Photo: G. Krishnaswamy
HYDERABAD : HUDA Colony in Shamshabad is set to change its look. With the proposed Outer Ring Road abutting, its fortune is on upswing now. Several vacant, old LIG and MIG houses in the colony under possession of HUDA were re-plotted as 250 sq.yard plots and handed over to the ORR-displaced families of Rallaguda, Tundupally, Kishanguda and Utpally villages. Carved out as Express Colony, work has commenced here to provide wide roads and other amenities. However, the owners of 110 houses coming under the ORR alignment, would be moving out to a new developed layout nearby, which is yet to be identified. "We all preferred to reside in one colony rather than segregate into different areas," said Shamshabad Ring Town (HUDA Colony) Welfare Association general secretary G.Narasimha Rao.
Stone-crushers
But it is the stone-crushers who had come from Anantapur, Mahabubnagar and other districts and who made the colony their home as tenants who are a worried lot now. They pin their hopes for houses under Urban Housing Scheme in Shamshabad. "Where else can we go?" ask Anjanamma, Laxmamma and Julamma. With some more houses likely to be demolished under the Growth Corridor regulations, the residents of HUDA Colony appeal to the State Government to give them alternative plots along with other displaced persons.
