  • District free from chikungunya as blood samples test negative
  • Special epidemic cells to monitor patients' inflow to hospitals

HYDERABAD : The Ranga Reddy district administration, which went into a state of high alert to tackle communicable diseases, has reported that not a single case of dengue has been reported so far and all necessary measures were being taken to control mosquito breeding.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr. K. Rajaiah, said on Saturday that only a few cases of malaria were reported from Yellammabanda in Balanagar recently and 15 medical camps were held in the area to control the incidence.

Otherwise, the district has been remarkably free from even `chikungunya' cases in the last few months with as many as 200 samples sent for testing turning out to be negative.

    Special cells

Special epidemic cells have been opened at district headquarters with a medical officer and four health supervisors.

Two supervisors will exclusively monitor flow of patients coming to Gandhi and Niloufer hospitals in the city and submit daily reports. Similar cells were formed at the primary health care centres all over the district.

Anganwadi workers also asked to keep a tab on those getting admitted in private clinics/hospitals.

Dr. Rajaiah urged people not to allow water to get stagnant in empty vessels, bottles, pots, coconut shell, flowerpots, air-coolers/ACs, etc., as it would allow mosquitoes to breed. Over head tanks and all containers have to be kept closed, disused wells closed permanently and also to ensure that septic tank gas outlets are covered with a mesh.
