Roy Paul heads Loyola North India chapter

NEW DELHI: The general body of Loyola College (Chennai) North India chapter met here recently to elect new office-bearers. It elected Roy Paul as president and S. Natarajan and S. Lakshminarayanan as vice-presidents.

N. Chandramohan and C. Ruthnaswamy were elected joint secretaries and Robin David treasurer. The other Committee members include P. K. H. Tharakan, Bosco Celestine, M. P. K. Kutty, A. Thomas, Rajan George, Sanjeev Singal, Nagaraj Krishnan and F. H. Joseph.

Award for Bank

of India

NEW DELHI: The National Award (Second Rank) for excellence in lending to the tiny sector was presented by Union Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee here on Saturday to the Chairman and Managing Director of the Bank of India, M. Balachandran.

Fake gutka unit unearthed

New Delhi: The police on Saturday claimed to have unearthed a factory in south-west Delhi where fake gutka bearing the names of popular brands were being manufactured and arrested its owner.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the unit located in Dwarka and recovered equipment used for manufacturing gutka, huge quantities of the fake product and duplicate pouches of the popular brands.

The factory was being run by one Pradeep Kumar, who was arrested on charges of cheating and under relevant sections of the Copy Right Act.

Shopkeeper arrested

NEW DELHI: Owner of a fire-cracker shop in Central Delhi has been arrested on charges of illegally storing explosives worth Rs 10 lakh manufactured in his factory in Haryana.

About 4,630 kg of fire crackers were seized from Vishal Fireworks in Dariba Kalan, near Jama Masjid, and its owners Subhash Chand Jain (50) arrested, police said on Saturday.

Jain could not produce any valid documents to prove that he was authorised to store such quantity of crackers when the police raided the shop's premises.

Interrogation revealed that Jain owns a fire crackers factory in Haryana and the seized explosives were manufactured there.

Charges framed

NEW DELHI: A city court has framed charges against a youth, who was accused of causing injury to a woman and robbing a man of a mobile phone and a few hundred rupees six months ago in North-West Delhi.

Additional Sessions Judge Narottam Kaushal charged Salman here of relieving Om Kant of his mobile phone and Rs 800 at Main Bawana Road on the evening of April 24 this year by using a knife along with two other co-accused.

The police arrested the accused Salman and recovered a sum of Rs 400 and the mobile phone from his possession while two other accused remained untraceable.
