HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Revenue Services Association has decided to field its president K. Laxmaiah as a candidate representing the Hyderabad Graduates' constituency, comprising Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar districts, on behalf of Government employees in the proposed Legislative Council. Announcing the decision here on Saturday, N. Ananda Rao, general secretary and C. Vijayaraghavan, treasurer said he was being fielded as he had `abundant knowledge' of issues relating to employees and the public. A Mandal Revenue Officer with over nine years' experience, they said Mr. Laxmaiah was association president and vice-chairman of the Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers (JAC) for about 14 years.
For graduate voters
G. Rama Moorthy, former general secretary, APNGOs' Association has represented to the Chief Electoral Officer the difficulties faced by graduates in registering as voters. He had suggested that a self-attested true copy of the degree / diploma certificate with specimen signatures, countersigned by a gazetted officer may be accepted. The AP Teachers' Federation has appealed to the Government to restore the right to vote in the Council elections of those teaching in secondary schools (classes 6, 7 and 8), polytechnics and ITIs.
