THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the intermittent rain that soaked the city from Friday night caused water logging in some parts, the district administration has ordered all village officers in the district to identify areas that are prone to water logging.

RDO K.V. Mohan Kumar said here on Saturday that the village officers have been asked to identify the reason for the water logging in such areas and identify the agency that has to carry out remedial action in those areas.

"Today for instance, the blockage in a Corporation drain caused water logging in Manava Nagar in Pettah. We got in touch with the Corporation officials but there was no response till evening," he said. The village officers have been asked to submit their reports immediately.

Engineers of the Irrigation Department have been asked to find out why a drainage canal passing through Kannammoola has been blocked in many places. "Late in the evening I got a call for an Army jawan in Nagaland. His house near the Karikkakom Devi Temple was flooded in today's rain," Mr. Mohan Kumar added.

The city's airport received 11 cm of rain in the last 24 hours while the city received 7.35 cm during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. today. Water levels in the Karamana and Killi rivers rose sharply this morning. There was water logging at East Fort, Thampanoor and in the Karimadom area.
